Destiny 2, which will gate off access to dungeons in the upcoming Witch Queen expansion unless you buy the deluxe edition, will also gate off access to most of the Bungie 30th Anniversary event content.
The Bungie 30th Anniversary event will not be a typical seasonal event, but a $25 DLC. For free, you can play the new 6 player match made mode Dares of Eternity, but everything else in the event will cost you money. Free seasonal events in Destiny 2 are generally accessible to players who just have the game. But this one will function like an expansion pack. The DLC does not count as seasonal content so when it comes out on December 7th when you buy it for a platform, even if you have cross-play enabled, you won’t be able to play it on any other platformunless you buy it again, Bungie confirmed this week.
In the DLC, you’ll get a new dungeon that is inspired by the Cosmodrome loot caves from Destiny 1. You’ll be able to earn a new Thorn armor set and hunt for relics. There will also be a quest to unlock the Gjallarhorn rocket launcher and to use it in the new dungeon. There are also other weapons representing 30 years of Bungie and of course, Destiny. There’s a new ornament set and a 30th anniversary streetwear inspired set.
Yet it seems like if anyone was expecting a 30th Anniversary announcement to be a seasonal event or a special event for players to participate in, that it’s a $25 DLC that you can’t play on other platforms, might make some people hesitate. Although this means that the event would be less limited than seasonal events which end and sometimes return, it’s up to players if they think that the investment is worth it this time.
