A new multiclass MMORPG has entered the ring, as Hollowed Oath by upstart studio God Mode Games has launched its Kickstarter today.
In Hallowed Oath, players explore and try to mend the world of Orrathis, “where a mysterious force known as the Hollow distorts reality,” as the Kickstarter explains. “The gods have vanished and civilization clings to survival behind wards, houses, and relics as twisted creatures, rival factions, and echoes of a forgotten past threaten what remains.”
The game’s dev team includes former members behind The Heroes Journey, a private EverQuest server which shut down last fall after a lawsuit filed by Daybreak Game Company. (The team later came to a settlement with Daybreak). Looks like they’re starting anew, but they’ve clearly gotten old-school MMORPG experience.
At the core of the gameplay is a multi-class system, where players can choose from up to three of classes and their abilities to tap into the best of each and optimize their gameplay style through a “synergy” system. The official website has a list of sixteen classes up so far, with a mix-and-match combination tool that lets players see how the stats work out together.
Hollowed Oath also has a heavy mix-and-match hero selection system that similarly allows you to choose active and passive traits, plus stats, powers, and perks to optimize what build you’re going for. On top of this, the Kickstarter shows off some already-established lore, instanced dungeons and more spread out over ten planned, distinct lands.
It does have an AI use page that claims that generative AI is used for prototyping and early creative concepts, with some assets made trained on in-house models.
At the time of writing, Hollowed Oath has over $35,000 of a $100,000 goal shown on the Kickstarter campaign page on its first day.
