Old School RuneScape is launching a brand new Master Quest with Secrets of the North. The new update continues the Mahjarrat storyline. Originally begun way back in 2001, this continuation is another way that Jagex is bringing more reasons to get into (or back into) OSRS in 2023.
Originally hinted at when the team polled the community in some sneaky ways, now all is revealed on the return to Secrets of the North. Back in December, Jagex revealed this was coming at the Winter Summit, though with just more hints. Now all has been revealed.
The first update of 2023 adds a new Master Level Quest, Secrets of the North, and a repeatable solo boss that you can unlock by going through this quest. Continuing the Mahjarrat storyline, You get to solve a mystery. A murder mystery. There are prerequisites required before you take on this quest, but when you do, you’ll have to do some investigation, discover more than a few secrets, and get to answer some questions.
If you do all of this, you’ll have access to the repeatable solo boss and some important rewards, including loads of XP for Agility, Thieving, and Hunter, as well as two Quest points. Should give you a little bit of an idea what you might be doing on this quest. As for additional rewards, these were voted on as part of the sneaky polls Jagex posed a few months back. One of them is a tier-80 ranged weapon called the Venator Bow that you can assemble by getting shards that drop from the boss.
It’s clear that this is a very important update and a major one to kick off the year. Secrets of the North is a prequel to Desert Treasure II- The Fallen Empire, which will be live later in the year, bringing four new areas and new bosses.
The team also dated the next update for the Wilderness boss rework on January 25th. There are details on what to expect in this week’s notes as well.
