MultiVersus, the new Smash-like from Warner Bros and Player First Games, has had a stellar start to its open beta, especially on PC. The free-to-play multiplayer brawler has seen incredible numbers since launching yesterday, topping over 150K concurrent players in its first 24 hours.

The Smash Bros-like brawler has hit not just Steam but also the Epic Game Store, as well as free-to-play on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, which means that the SteamDB numbers are just a small portion of those playing the new title. However, for a free-to-play launch, it’s an impressive showing. Within the first 24 hours of its open beta launch yesterday, SteamDB has shown MultiVersus hitting a peak concurrent player count of 153,433 players, with 145,963 playing at the time of this writing.

Multiversus SteamDB Chart

It’s free-to-play, which means many of these users are just trying it out because, well, why wouldn’t you. But it gives a glimpse into just a fraction of what the total player base could be if we had hard numbers for every platform.

MultiVersus, in case you missed it, is a free-to-play multiplayer brawler that sees players from various Warner Bros. properties fight it out. It feels much like its brawler predecessor, Super Smash Bros., and while it’s not perfect it’s a solid romp. Taking on the role of characters like Shaggy from Scooby-Doo or Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, you’ll go head to head with other incredibly diverse characters like LeBron James (the Space Jam version) who have teamed up with Steven Universe from the eponymous television series. New fighters, such as Rick and Morty are already planned and coming in the next few weeks.

We’ve been putting the multiplayer brawler through its paces, stay tuned for our full review next week.
