New World is launching a Public Test Realm, or PTR, and starting tomorrow players can check out some of the first changes, including the addition of a new weapon, the Void Gauntlet.
To say New World has had a rocky start would be an understatement. However, the developers have been hard at work addressing issues pertaining to server queues, bugs and exploits since the MMO hit digital shelves back in late September.
To help with that endeavor, the team has announced the creation of a public test realm, or PTR, for players to jump into and help test out upcoming features and updates.
“The Public Test Realm (PTR) is a limited-availability server-set that will give players an early look at upcoming features. These preview builds are snapshots of upcoming major updates and are not final versions— you may encounter bugs, crashes, missing text, or other issues. Between our internal testing efforts and your feedback we hope to catch and resolve all serious issues before they reach the live servers. Hundreds of changes have been made and the full release notes will be shared on release day.
To help with the feedback process, all newly created characters on these worlds will have the opportunity to instantly level to select level-ranges outfitted with appropriate gear and items.”
Some of the changes players can expect include things such as improvements made to the main storyline, with Amazon stating that they’ve injected a little bit more variety into the questing, as well more quest types in PvP tasks. Variety seems to be the name of the game right now as the PTR will also be showing off some of the first enemy types to come to New World since launch, hopefully breaking up the monotony of combat throughout the leveling process.
Most importantly for some, though, will be the chance to take the upcoming Void Gauntlet for a spin. This new weapon is a DPS/support hybrid that scales on both Focus and Intelligence, meaning it could pair well with weapons such as the Life Staff or Fire Staff, among a few others.
You can check out the full announcement on the New World website for more details. The new PTR will show up in your Steam Library and will act as a standalone download for New World. The first opportunity to test things in the PTR starts tomorrow, running starting at 12pm PT on November 10th. Currently servers will be limited – there will be one US East server and one Central Europe server to join.
