It’s always a treat to look back over several years and revel in your progress. For Albion Online today is that well-earned day, as they celebrate their fifth anniversary. Join in on the celebration and check out their anniversary trailer.

These days it seems like if a game doesn’t completely take the world by storm early in its development, it can sometimes just fade away. In the case of Albion Online the game has only gotten more successful over the past 5 years. After the initial launch of the game on July 17th, 2017, the team began adding substantial content updates, which culminated in the release of their free-to-play release on April 10th 2019.

The population began to grow steadily after the free to play release, but that may be considered just the beginning as Sandbox Interactive’s plan to release a mobile version was finally realized June 9th of 2021, marking a premiere milestone that culminated in millions of players joining the game. Between each launch, new features and more challenges have been added with each major content update. Sandbox Interactive was even the recipient of several awards last year, including  “Best Mobile Game” from the German Developer Awards, Deutscher Entwicklerpreis, and “Best MMO PvP” from our friends at MassivelyOP.

The fifth anniversary post ended with a word from Game Director Robin Henkys:

The world of Albion lives through its players, and we’re incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated, active, and diverse community to bring Albion to life. The past five years have certainly had their share of challenges, but we’re very proud of where we’ve brought the game so far, and we can’t wait to see what the coming years will bring.

-Robin Henkys, Game Director, Albion Online

Undoubtedly, with more than 5-million players, Albion Online will have plenty in store for their beloved fans. Congratulations on 5 years, and we hope to see you thrive for many more!
