So it looks like Black Desert’s Pearl Abyss is building a new art center of sorts which will house a 1000 square foot motion capture studio.

The investment includes 30 billion won, or roughly $26 million USD, for the construction of a five-story structure. This building will include a floor area of 5000 square meters in Pyeongchon, Anyang City in South Korea. Tentatively called the Pearl Abyss Art Center, this is said to be the largest art center for the games industry in Korea once it’s opened in the first half of 2022.

Amongst the floors will include a new motion capture studio. This studio will be constructed as a column-free space taking up 1000 square feet. The space is intended to be pretty massive with a 9 meter height in addition to 150 motion capture cameras.

Clearly, Pearl Abyss is investing heavily into the technology aspect of game design. Jeakwon Kim, Executive Head of Division, Art Sector, noted in the press release,

“We plan to create more realistic and cinematic games through the art center. It will be a technologically advanced base for Pearl Abyss to improve the quality of new titles such as Crimson Desert, DokeV, and PLAN 8 as well as the Black Desert IP.”

It seems Pearl Abyss doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Just recently, they announced a 300% increase in new players for Black Desert Online. Late last month, the MMO received the Corsair class featuring unique abilities and combat combos. In fact, you can check out a video of the Corsair in action here.
