Baldur’s Gate fans that have been toiling in Larian’s latest early access version of Baldur’s Gate 3 will be happy to hear that the team has finally given a release window for the game. The announcement that the game would be officially released sometime in 2023, was made during a D&D livestream event last week.
When a game enters Early Access it can often time be hard to call exactly when, or even if, the game will finally release. Larian is somewhat different in that regard, often opening up their early access years before the game is even close to releasing, and then eventually getting through to a release state after much testing and many updates. So far, Baldur’s Gate 3 has come a long way from the initial Early Access Steam release back in October of 2020. New classes, romances, content, bugfixes and more have been added to the game, and there’s still quite a bit more to go before the game is finally set to release.
Back in February of 2022, Larian told Eurogamer that they believed they were in their last year of development. In spite of that, the team didn’t believe they’d be able to launch the game in 2022:
“We do still think we have a year of development ahead of us, so it’s unlikely it will be this year [2022]. But we are at the end, so we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now. We have a pretty concrete plan.”

As the team at Larian whittles down what’s left to do for the last segment of the game, Steam players have still sung praises for Baldur’s Gate 3 over the entirety of its Early Access development. The game has an 87.7% positive rating, out of its nearly 50,000 reviews. After a long journey, it looks like a lot of people will be excited to hop into the final release of the game.
