The Whitemoon Games team has an update on work to overhaul Broken Ranks’ legendary gear, as well as some of the timeline, and a new endgame instance coming.

The development team has been working on the gear situation, with some of the work divided into several stages, since they are looking to not only complete several steps, but they are looking to ease players into all of the changes.

The Broken Ranks team announced that the first update for the new gearing system will happen in the first half of April. This will include the biggest changes, with smaller tweaks to the system, adjustments, and more customization options to follow.

So what will be coming in April? The new system that lets you insert modifiers into rares, along with abilities to change them or remove them as you want to. The team will also add a new system for experience, because you will be leveling up your modifiers, not the gear itself. Modifiers will be grouped up and renamed to something called Drifs. Once the system is in place, you’ll be able to choose which one of these drifs you slot into pieces of your gear. If you already have legendary items that you are looking to upgrade, existing legendary gear will be adapted  to work with the new system.

As part of balancing this new system, there will be a system of diminishing returns deliberately added. You could add more of the same modifier, but the drifs will be less effective. They’re trying to prevent people from making seriously OP characters by loading up the same kinds of bonuses and really beefing up their particular builds. The system is designed for customization, though, and we’ll see more next month.

The team has also been working on new content. It has been a while since they added new content, especially when it comes to endgame. They’re hinting at a new instance located somewhere in the game, and based on one of their earlier concepts.

You can read all of the details on the gearing changes and try to crack the hints about the new instance (and give feedback, if you want), over at Broken Ranks.
