Stormhaven Studios is looking back at January in Embers Adrift, while also opening up the QA server for members to test out upcoming content and help the devs polish it up.

The January state of the game producer’s letter covers a lot of ground. Embers Adrift had its first free play weekend at the end of the month, and according to the update, there was a  strong response from those joining, but also the community to support them. Community feedback takes an important role in development, and in this letter, since Stormhaven is a small independent studio. Only are there some new changes coming based on community feedback, but a few that also made it into the game already.

Among the changes in January were a new outdoor dungeon, The Exile Freehold, for 40+, and they still have plans for this dungeon. It will be the final purpose for the Exiled and where to confront the Exile King and wrap up one of the earliest storylines. There were balance changes, ability tweaks, and quality of life updates as well. Some changes were made, like a delay when logging out, to reduce griefing, alongside some cosmetic improvements. Especially well-received was the change to hair, which had an awkward transparency since launch that is finally gone for good.

Also in the letter is a look ahead, with a mention of the QA server opening up for all active subscribers. the server will be open today into tomorrow for those to test level 30 and level 34 content, including the next zone coming, Grimstone Canyon.

The QA server will open once a week for active members to log onto a copy of their character and find a number of things the devs need help testing that week. There’s a major QA patch today, to welcome the new QA Cadence and not only add a new zone, but a whole bunch of fixes, UI improvements, and even a dueling system, where “PvP” is accomplished through rolling dice. There’s also a merchant buyback system to test out,  which will let you buy back an item for the price you sold it for if you have regrets or make a mistake at the merchant.

There’s a lot in the patch, and you can read all the details over at Embers Adrift.
