In the 2021 Q3 investor presentation from Enad Global 7, news regarding the Marvel MMORPG that has been “under wraps” for several years, prior to the purchase of Daybreak Games by EG7. Slated as part of their “longer-term goals” the unannounced Marvel MMORPG was listed as in-development by Dimensional Ink Studios. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about this Marvel MMORPG – so what do we know about it so far?

For starters, lets get the facts out of the way. Daybreak Games’ licensing deal with Marvel preceded the acquisition of studios’ by EG7. The unannounced MMORPG is being developed by Dimensional Ink, with a team led by Jack Emmert, who designed City of Heroes and leads the current super hero title, DC Universe Online. The in-development game is not to be confused with a fan made The Marvel Universe Online MMO that has no affiliation with Marvel, Dimensional Ink or EG7. The game has (at least officially) held the license for more than 2 years.

Now that we’ve touched on what we factually know about the upcoming Marvel MMORPG, here are the rumors related to the project. According to some rumors conveyed through reddit, Daybreak was working on the unannounced MMORPG as far back as 2017. The game was reportedly scrapped, or put on hiatus, however it planned to allow players to create their own characters, select their own class, earn gear and interact with iconic Marvel Characters such as Iron Man and Captain America which were depicted in screenshots in the reddit thread.

It was clear from the end of year 2020 Investor Report that EG7 was interested in the Marvel IP as a future project. However, in early 2020 we received an anonymous tip that the Marvel MMORPG may still be in development, which dropped right around the time that Dimensional Ink teased a Next Generation Action MMORPG. If the rumors prove true, the developmental hiatus rumored from back in 2018, had picked back up by early 2020, and is now part of the long-term development plan for EG7.

We can’t nail down any exact timeframes related to the upcoming announcement and release schedule of the upcoming Marvel MMORPG. Now that the Flerken is out of the bag, we shouldn’t be surprised of a 2022 announcement at one of the major video game events such as E3. We’ve reached out to Dimensional Ink and will update the article with their response if received.
